I hear you on that, Swarlock. Smurf TPB comics (what they call "albums") translated to English would be great to have again. Why should the non-English readers have all the fun of reading what Studio Peyo's been putting out for the last decade or so? Heck, I would love to read "The Black Smurfs" translated to English, since its cartoon episode counterpart "The Purple Smurfs" is one of my favorite stories.

That's about as specific as it's going to get about The Smurfs Movie for the moment. When it gets close the day when more information gets out we'll know more.

Of course I'm more interested in the possiblity of a reissue of the Smurf graphic novel books and those we haven't seen yet.

Publishing in The US ceased after The Johann and Pewitt book
THE BLACK ARROW came out in 1995.

There was a news topic going around this week officially announcing the smurfs movie. I heard it mentioned on the radio one morning last week and looked it up online. The report came from the World Entertainment news network.

Cartoon characters the Smurfs and G.I. Joe will make their movie debuts following the success of summer blockbuster Transformers.

The animated creatures will be joined by Alvin and the Chipmunks and He-Man as a wave of television cartoon characters of the past are reworked for the big screen.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, co-producer on Transformers, said a script for all-American war hero G.I. Joe was being written and Paramount has earmarked November 2008 for the release of the first full-length animated Smurfs movie.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is planning to produce movie adaptations of He-Man and Thundercats, while Fox is working on a script for Alvin and the Chipmunks

Sigh.. so Comic Con has come and gone.. and much to my dismay.. there was no Smurf tease... though I did ask one of the Paramount reps about Smurfs and they said that there WILL be a movie... they like the script, they have the financing.. it's just a matter of making deals. They said especially since Every other studio was trumpeting their 80s franchise films.. WB has He-Man AND Thundercats... Fox has GI Joe... etc... Smurfs will rise again. We just have to wait. :-(

No there will be a movie... Paramount will have a presence at Comic Con... and I can almost promise there will be some Smurf tease there.
