Default The movie is enjoyable

I went to see the movie today, and I enjoyed it pretty much. I think all the hard-core fans will like the movie, but for new and younger fans, they might not find the charms in the smurfs like we used to find in the classic TV series or comic books. As the matter of fact, I still like the classic look of the original smurfs though.

By the way, at the theater I went to, there was a table filled with a lot of smurfs goodies at the front door of the showing room. Sony was giving out posters (big and small), coloring sheets, crayons, (huge) foil balloons, tshirts, bookmarks, tattoos, and the blue zinc oxide (color paint). There might be more, but I didn't have time to dig through all the boxes. Fortunately, I grabbed a little of everything I saw before entered the showing room. I thought I could grabbed some more on the way out after the movie ended, but by that time, the lady sitting there was gone with the wind (or the smurfs goodies ). I felt so lucky. It was the first time I saw a company giving out promo stuffs at a theater though. They usually do this kind of thing at a convention or press meeting or something like that, but not at the theaters.

So, if you're going to watch the movie, keep an eye out for the smurfs goodies.

I can only wish. I don't expect much at my theater. It is a small town theater. But I will keep my eye out for anything that they might have. I will also ask for all the displays they can get me. Even though I already have been promised it.

It seem to me that my cinema was the only one with no movie promotion displays. It was nothing, no even a poster outside or inside the theater. No smurfs goodies at my theater

I saw the movie yesterday. Based on the critics reviews, I was expecting the a complete and utter mess. They were judging this movie like it was supposed to be the next contender at the academy awards However in my opinion, it was not a bad movie. The main focus audience they were aiming at was children and I think they nailed it. Most of the jokes were focused on a child's mindset as well as a few adult themed jokes. I honestly got a kick out of the jokes making fun of the Smurfs overly annoying cuteness. They stayed true to the original essence of the Smurfs and also modernized it slightly. All in all by the end of the movie, the kids were all cheering and clapping. Out of all the Disney movies I have seen, I never saw children cheering and clapping. Hopefully this means that the Smurfs are back for round 2 of world domination.

Well unregistered; Maybe you should be a Film critic. Actually what I read about a lot of critics is they are afraid to go against the more popular critics. So they write reviews using theirs as a guide line. What you want to do is do as you did. Listen to the crowd. The kids are the real critics. And as for round 2 that started 3 years ago as far as I'm conserned with the Jakks Smurfs. And Target $1 items.

And while I hope you are right about the world domination thing. My pocket book might not be so glad. lol I'm have a hard time just staying a little behind. And people that have stuff stashed in closets will be pulling them out and putting the stuff on ebay. Wait why exactly am I complaining about. Thats a good thing.

This movie proved me wrong.

Hollywood has a habit of taking your childhood memories and destroying it on the screen. I half expected Smurfs with the name of Paris Hilton Smurf, and Kim Kardashian Smurf, Situation Smurf, etc.

I think the movie was done perfectly with the old/previous fans while bringing new fans in. I even loved the few "homage" scenes. ie: The Smurf books showing Peyo as a documentor of the Smurfs, and when Azreal landed on Gargamel's head, he says "Oh, you're a boy?" (which was always a debate), etc etc.

My only problems were the less then great voice acting (except for Johnathon Winters). They seemed to have little personality at times. My biggest hate was Gutsy Smurf. Why is it that all kid's movies MUST have a "Michael Myers/Shrek" Scottish accent/character in it??? Grouchy could have covered all the "anger/aggressive" moments that were part of Gutsy's role.

I think Neil Patrick Harris was amazing. He was perfect for the Smurf's "human contact".

My hope is that in future movies, that it takes place in their own world. There is more than enough story arcs and characters to fill the pages of a script, and NOT having it take place in "our world".

With that, I still give this movie a 10/10.
