Default Surprise Bag Smurfs

I was wondering if anyone on here knows why the 3 smurfs with surprise bags are so hard to find especially the green and orange ones. Weren't they released in 1986 as part of the regular production. I have seen a few here and there and they are so expensive. Pete has the orange one and it is over $400 dollars.

This is just a guess, In 1984, I only had one dealer that I could find that got the 1984 Smurfs, and it didn't take him long to quit selling Smurfs too. I am pretty sure it was like this in most places. Pretty much from 1984 to 1998 I didn't even know that they had continued to make Smurfs. In other words they probibly didn't make as many.

Hey Bill

Thanks for your reply. I thought the surprise bags came out in 1986. It's weird the pink surprise bag doesn't seem to be as hard to find as the other two and the price is alot cheaper.

I have a lot of family members in the area so I'm thinking I'll get all of them to watch a different channel on wed, and when the Smurfs come on they can give me a call and tell me which channel it's on. I can only hope.

Hmmm...are they really so hard fo find? Give it a good search on ebay and they‘ll pop up regularly... I find them rather more expensive than hard to find. The redgold bag is still around 200€‘s while the greenyellow one is also rather expensive. The pink version shouls he cheaper though... At least that‘s my experience when I bought them but it seems nothing has changed much since then...

yes I believe you are correct about the date. But in the US. Most dealer stopped selling Smurfs in or around 1984. In fact after I bought out a dealer in 1984/5 the only thing I found in a store was 3 puzzles at a Kmart around 1993. That doesn't mean they didn't make them. Just that the demand was low, so they made less.

The pink version is the most common one as it was in production for several years.
All of them are rather rare (but not super rare) because of their limited years of production. Schleich discontinued them due to the fact that the bags are easily coming off the smurfs, and children could have choked on them if they took them into their mouths.
