| CruelSun23 | 1. Do you remember what your first Smurf puchase was? If so, what was it? I don't remember my first purchase, but I remember getting my first Smurf. Astro Smurf was on top on my birthday cake when I turned 4 years old, in 1983. (Yes, he was standing in the icing! What did we know about condition back then?!) 2. When did you begin collecting Smurfs as a hobby? 1983. I loved the Astro that was on my cake, and from then on, my mom always bought them for me when we went to flea markets/garage sales... they were usually 10 or 25 cents each (boy, do I miss that!). 3. How old were you when you bought your first Smurf/and when you began collecting? I had a big box of Smurfs for most of my life, but never knew that anyone else did, or that they were worth anything, until I discovered eBay in about 1999... one fateful day, I typed "Smurfs" into the search box, and the rest is history... lol. 4. Do you have a favorite Smurfy item? Naughty Smurf (sticking his tongue out). 5. What’s your oddest Smurf item? I have a Smurf bubble pipe. 6. How many PVCs do you have? Oh gosh, I don't even know. I have all the regulars and supers, plus some variations and promos, plus all the duplicates I have for sale. 7. How many total Smurf items do you have? In addition to all the PVCs, I have a giant stuffed smurf, 3 small plush Smurfs, a bank, and a couple other things. It's mostly the PVCs that I am into. 8. How are your Smurfs displayed? I have a tall, skinny curio cabinet that I picked up at a garage sale for $20. I had to fix it up a little and double the amount of shelves, but it was worth the work. 9. Does anyone else in your family collect smurfs? Nope. 10. Do you collect any other toys? No. 11. What was the LAST Smurf item you bought? Smurf with Green Surprise Cone 12. What’s the best-priced (best deal) you got on a Smurf? I bought a genuine Baseball Smurfette for $2. She was among a bunch of Smurfs sitting in a cabinet in a comic store, so I asked how much she was and the guy (to my shock and delight) said that all the Smurfs were $2 each. Needless to say, I bought them all and sold them on eBay (I already had a Baseball Smurfette of my own)! 13. What’s the MOST you paid for one smurf? $92, for my Green Surprise Cone. I was willing to pay a lot because it was the only Smurf I didn't have, and I had been looking for it for a long, long time. 14. Do you know how Smurfette originated? I have my theories, but I don't know the real story. 15. Do you like the cartoon as much as the toys? I think I watched the cartoon when I was little, but I don't really remember. 16. Which, if any, Smurfs have you won in Pete’s great contests, or other contests? None  17. Have you given other people Smurfs as gifts? Yes, I gave Laptop Smurf to my boyfriend, because he is a computer geek  18. Do you often receive Smurfs as gifts, or do you have to buy them all yourself? I got a few as a gift once. My sister got hold of my "want list" a few years back and gave me some Smurfs for my birthday... woohoo! Nice surprise. 19. Do you wear Smurfs/Smurfy items? I would if I had any that I could wear. 20. If there had been a Smurfs Finale episode, how do you think it would’ve ended? Happily ever after, I would guess! 21. Why do you even collect Smurfs? I was a small child. From my childhood, I still had: 2 Smurfy Tooth pillows (homemade-the back had a spot to put your tooth in - one was my sister's), a stuffed Smurfette, and Smurfette on Rollerskates, and Puppy on Skateboard. My husband remembers buying them at our "Off-Price Mall" at, what he calls, a Smurf Store. 2. When did you begin collecting Smurfs as a hobby? 1997. Took all my husband's PVC's & paired them with what I had left. Started finding & buying the glasses, bought a new t-shirt (Teeter-Totter) at a toy store, and from then on, it was love. 3. How old were you when you bought your first Smurf/and when you began collecting? I was very small, but I remember playing with the Tooth Pillows when I was 3. I was 16/17 when I began collecting. 4. Do you have a favorite Smurfy item? I could never play favorites. But my husband thinks my 1982 Christmas plate & mug are my favorites b/c I pay special attention to them. 5. What’s your oddest Smurf item? That would be my Papa Smurf Eau De Toilet Cologne. My aunt & uncle sent it to me, box & all, from a flea market in Miami. It doesn't smell that bad! 6. How many PVCs do you have? I have a spreadsheet somewhere...I think it's 200. 7. How many total Smurf items do you have? About 350 or so. 8. How are your Smurfs displayed? I've shared many photos & videos. They're on black bracket shelves my husband put up for me last summer. And they have their own room. 9. Does anyone else in your family collect smurfs? Nope. 10. Do you collect any other toys? I love PVC's & I love 80's toys. I try to keep it to smurfs, since I've run out of room in the apartment we used to live in. But I collect Dr. Seuss, 80s toys, Snorks, & a few other things. He collects CA Raisins. 11. What was the LAST Smurf item you bought? I can't remember, fully, but I think it was this Smurfette backpack. 12. What’s the best-priced (best deal) you got on a Smurf? Graduation Smurf for $0.10 at a flea market. Sold him, 4 years ago, for $75. (Had bills to pay). Anyone have an extra? 13. What’s the MOST you paid for one smurf? That wouldn't be much on the PVC's. Probably $40 for the Smurf metal shelf I have. 14. Do you know how Smurfette originated? Yup! I have that episode recorded, too. 15. Do you like the cartoon as much as the toys? yes. When will they put it on DVD for USA?? They have Fraggles, but no smurfs! 16. Which, if any, Smurfs have you won in Pete’s great contests, or other contests? A while ago, I won this GREAT jack-in-the-box Smurf from the newsletter contest. I'd never be able to buy him otherwise, so I was thrilled! Several months ago, I won the Abe Lincoln (possible my husband's newest fave), an older Sassette & an older Peewit (cool version) that I didn't have!! YAY!! 17. Have you given other people Smurfs as gifts? I've given the Bride & Groom set to people getting married. 18. Do you often receive Smurfs as gifts, or do you have to buy them all yourself? I did get the Papa Cologne for Christmas. My husband bought me an alarm clock when I had my tonsils out. My parents managed to get me a smurf I didn't have (computer smurf) in my Christmas stocking a couple years ago. But that's it. The rest I have to buy myself b/c you can't find them anywhere, and no one ever knows which ones I don't have. 19. Do you wear Smurfs/Smurfy items? I have a t-shirt with a Smrfette patch on the front that I like to wear to flea markets or yard sales...many times sellers will see my shirt & go "OH! I have some smurfs...hang on..." it's great. I also have necklace charms, and a sock cap. The teeter-tooter shirt I have stays on display. 20. If there had been a Smurfs Finale episode, how do you think it would’ve ended? Smurfette would've buckled down & married....Hefty. Vanity would've come out. Sasette & Nat would've started dating. Papa would've told everyone he was leaving to see the rest of the world...they could finally get along without him. Gargamel would've seen the light & stop chasing them. 21. Why do you even collect Smurfs? They make me SO HAPPY. They're blue, cute, what's more to love? 22. Would you give up every Smurf for a big price? For the best of my family, yes. But that wouldn't stop me from continuing to buy more. |

Probably the 1983 Marvel published Smurf comic book mini-series (which I didn't know was going to be a mini-series until after issue #3 came out). 2. When did you begin collecting Smurfs as a hobby? Around 1982. Most of my collection was based on comic books and recording episodes of the TV series (originally on audiotape, later on video). Do you have a favorite Smurfy item? Just the floppy hats that I buy at my local Army & Navy store that I wear in similar fashion to a Smurf hat. My sister Vicky has some Smurf PVCs, but she isn't a very big collector of them. 10. Do you collect any other toys? I mostly collect superhero comicbooks in TPB format and videogames. Part of how I got into Smurf collecting was through videogames, seeing the first Smurf videogame being advertised for the Atari 2600 and ColecoVision. 11. What was the LAST Smurf item you bought? Probably Smurf Racer for the Playstation. 12. What’s the best-priced (best deal) you got on a Smurf? Don't remember. 13. What’s the MOST you paid for one smurf? Also don't remember. 14. Do you know how Smurfette originated? She was created by Gargamel, then was transformed into a real Smurf by Papa Smurf, according to the cartoon episode about her origin. 15. Do you like the cartoon as much as the toys? I prefer the cartoon over the toys. Of course, I would like to see a new Smurf videogame for the upcoming "next-generation" game systems like the Playstation 3, the X-Box 360, and the Nintendo Wii. 16. Which, if any, Smurfs have you won in Pete’s great contests, or other contests? None that I know of. 17. Have you given other people Smurfs as gifts? Mostly hand-drawn cards featuring the Smurfs. 18. Do you often receive Smurfs as gifts, or do you have to buy them all yourself? Some I get as gifts, and some I would have to buy myself. 19. Do you wear Smurfs/Smurfy items? Just the floppy hats mentioned. 20. If there had been a Smurfs Finale episode, how do you think it would’ve ended? The Smurfs return back to their home time period, and perhaps Smurfette getting married. 21. Why do you even collect Smurfs? I don't so much collect Smurfs as I just simply enjoy them. 22. Would you give up every Smurf for a big price? Don't care how much I would get for them. If somebody enjoys them, that's worth whatever I can get. |

But I can recall a few very early buys from a market stall where I brought (mum brought me) my first papa soft toy. I have a photo here of me with it and the photo is dated 89. This permanent market stall was one of the first places I brought smurfs from.. they always had a basket of smurfs. Brought my aussie football smurf (blue) there, probably only cost 50c maybe, also remember buying papa and ballerina smurfette. So that must have been late 80's, early 90's. Not sure when the stall disappeared, and then not long after the markets closed. 2. When did you begin collecting Smurfs as a hobby? As a hobby probably mid-90's, 95 on-ward. Though I had been obviously collecting smurfs since a young age.. I probably started as soon as I popped out into the world, but I just didn't realise I was collecting until later on. 3. How old were you when you bought your first Smurf/and when you began collecting? Young I guess. Born in 85, I'm guessing by 89 I was already into the smurfs. 4. Do you have a favorite Smurfy item? My giant smurf soft toy!! 5. What’s your oddest Smurf item? I brought a dog bowl at a market because it had smurfs on it... at the time I didn't even have a dog. It's one of those items I wonder, why the heck did I buy this. 6. How many PVCs do you have? ahhh, I used to be able to remember the total of smurfs I had.. but not anymore. Do you count the supers as well, do you count the variations, blah, blah... I'll just say over 260 different.. 7. How many total Smurf items do you have? Couldn't count. I have a large collection of other smurf items as I went insane at markets during the mid 90's. 8. How are your Smurfs displayed? Thanks to Ikea! Only recently got my pvcs and houses out on display in cabinets. 9. Does anyone else in your family collect smurfs? Nope. 10. Do you collect any other toys? yyyyes... what could possibly be better than collecting smurfs... collecting power ranger action figures and toys.... i don't think so. smurf collection is a main focus at the moment and much larger. 11. What was the LAST Smurf item you bought? An authentic baseball smurfette. 12. What’s the best-priced (best deal) you got on a Smurf? Baseball smurfette was a good deal. 93US for her with 7 other smurfs all of which I didn't have also, so that was lucky. Plus my Giant smurf soft toy only cost $2 at a market. 13. What’s the MOST you paid for one smurf? Baseball again is probably the highest.. I haven't started buying any of the really high priced rare smurfs yet. 14. Do you know how Smurfette originated?  YES! Still waiting to re-watch this classic episode. It hasn't been released onto the dvds, they skipped it. 15. Do you like the cartoon as much as the toys? I like collecting much more, but still really enjoy the cartoon. Buy the DVDS! Still haven't watched any on the latest volume. 16. Which, if any, Smurfs have you won in Pete’s great contests, or other contests? I won my Traffic Smurf with paint error in one of Petes contests! Also won a soft toy in a contest on Blue Cavern. 17. My family usually look out for smurfs but when they see them, they don't buy them because they don't know if I have them or not. 19. Do you wear Smurfs/Smurfy items?
