Hey Smurfsterocks, I totally remember those sticks of gum! I didn't remember it until I saw your picture, though! I love when people post pictures, it's always a blast from the past. Keep up the collecting!

That was the really sad part, I found out who stole my collection later on. I just didn't want to mention who it was. As to if they knew how much it meant to me, I wouldn't know.

I have not started my website yet and I know that is going to take me a while. I have to borrow my boss digital camera every weekend because I don't own one. But eventually it will be done. I have visit some of your websites and I must say... "Great Collection!" Keep on Smurfin'.
Can anyone remember chewing on these? They came with little pictures of Smurfs inside every stick. These 2 little items are some bits and pieces of those collectibles when I was a teen. The wrapping that holds the sticks of gum has shrivel from old age.

Wish me luck!

Lucretia, I really want to sit down and go through all of my photos as well and scan anything of me with smurfs. Actually a week or so back my mother found a photo of me at probably around age 1 or 2, holding a smurf cup that wasn't even mine.. so I have no idea who's cup that was. So I must have been into smurfs even at that age. I had previously placed down 89 as when I started getting into smurfs, and before that I thought early 90s, so I am surprised to find photos going back even earlier.

Hi Lecretia,
that is a great picture. I particularly love seeing old pics of collectors as youngsters with their smurfs. Unfortunately I don't think I have any of me when I was younger with any of my smurfs but it is lovely seeing your pic. |

Hi Smurfsterocks & welcome to the mushroom village! Your picture was really neat. I especially liked the yellow display that spins and holds smurfs individually. That brought back a lot of memories! I haven't seen one of those in a LONG time! My favorite smurf store in the 80's did not have them in a case- they were loose on acrylic display shelves. I liked that better, because I could pick them up and decide which ones were the cutest! However, my second favorite smurf place had that exact yellow case! I always felt bad for them in there- it looked like a smurfy jail! Your story about the theft of your collection was so sad! Do you think that the person who stole them knew you & knew how much they meant to you? I can't imagine someone being that heartless! I'm always a little taken aback at how rude some people can be about collectors of toys (or anything, really). It's like we're freaks to them, or something. I think people who don't collect anything are the real weirdos. Like they can't connect with anything. But anyway- back to your cool collection! Do you like smurf decorated things (like mugs, posters, etc) better than actual smurfs? It looks like you have a big variety of smurfy stuff! I am sure you'll love this site, everyone is very nice that I have encountered & it's cool to talk to people with similar experiences & collecting habits. Enjoy & talk to you later!

Hi Everyone!
I'm 38 years old. I Live in Brooklyn, New York. (Born and Raised) I have been a Smurf fan ever since I've seen a Smurf. I was 14 years old then and the year was 1981. I had my Smurf Collectibles and as the years went by they kind of disappeared. I still have bits and pieces of those collectibles that I will never give up because they remind me how much I love the Smurfs when I was a teen and I still do. When Saturday morning cartoons were on, I stuck to that TV like glue until the Smurfs came on and trust me, there was nobody to get me away from the set. When I reached the age of 17, I set out to get me a job and tried to obtain a Smurf Collection. Not as big as I wanted it to be, but I had obtain just a bigger collection than the first collection. I had that boxed and put away in the basement as my collection was growing and after doing this for several years, my collection was stolen. (Not many men admit this but…) I cried because after working so hard for several years for something I always wanted was gone in a matter of minutes. I can remember my sister telling me not to worry so much about it, That one day I will have double of what they had stolen from me. I still have my bits and pieces from my first collection because they never made it to that box I had stored in the basement. I gave up Smurf collecting for a while but never gave up that love I have for the Smurfs. I was afraid if I built another collection it would be stolen from me.
After so many years have gone by, thought I give it another shot at collecting Smurfs again. Now the year is 1998 and I couldn’t find a Smurf PVC figure any where I went in New York. I went on my WebTV and did some research on the Smurfs and found The Official Smurf Web Site and just kept going on from there. After that I learned about MushroomVillage.com (former eSMURFS.com) I have been a Smurf Newsletter subscriber since. (WebTV was slow searching, so I updated to a computer) I also learned about eBay.com and many other sites that were selling Smurfs.
I can still remember my sister telling me how I would gain double of the collection I had stolen from me. And she was right. Today I have a collection of over 350+ Smurf PVCs, Smurf Coffee Mugs, Smurf Drinking Glasses, Smurf Porcelain Collectibles - (Plates, Cups, Trinkets, etc.) I have a few pieces of Silverware too and Smurf Toys and so on. I even gained a Smurf Display Case. The one where I remember going to the store where they sold Smurfs and I gave it a twirl and said; “I’ll take these three today.” I finally decided to join the forum and share my collection with every other Smurf fan out there. I am going to create a small website to share my pictures with anyone who wants to see my collection and I would love to see their collection as well. But for now I’ll give you a small glimpse of what my living room look like about a year ago and Hope to post some more as I’ll continue to visit this forum and keep the Smurf Spirit alive, as well as you Smurf fans have been doing.

Billy Idol (aka Billy Idiot at times) is very cool....ok, I may be the only person who feels this way...but I still like Billy (Dyar now does bad raised lip impersonation).

Hey Dyar-
I still think that A Ha is cool! I'll never forget that cutting edge video of Take On Me- well it WAS cutting edge back then! Of course, I think that you guys are younger than me, but when that came out I was in high school & they were the coolest! I think the wildest poster I had in my room was of Billy Idol. Until I was 16, I was really a little dorky, so that was a big deal for me!
I wish that they still sold smurfs in retail locations where I live! Well, maybe I don't- I'd always be broke!
Talk 2 you guys later,

Well....I didn't mention which musos I had on my wall did I?.....Some of them probably wouldn't be considered too cool now.
