giraffe Hi Lacey,

I find a good way to get a current price value of variations or any smurfs for that matter is to do a completed items search on ebay for the smurf in question. That will show you how much that smurf has gone for in the last 30 days and give you a rough idea of current market value. You have to take into account of course the condition of the smurf etc.

Sometimes you'll find the smurf you want doesn't come up in the search. In that case its probably pretty rare and doesn't come up too often and that gives you some idea of how much its worth anyway.

Lacey Thanks Pete!

Pete I assign a price to a variation when it is in stock and for sale. Once it is not in stock, it continues to be available via the MushroomVillage ID Guide, but I made no attempt to keep pricing there current at all. If I had more of a piece to sell, I would update the pricing, but if it remained out of stock, the price might no longer be accurate, as market conditions change.

I was aware a lot of people were using my pricing as a gold standard. I didn't want that to happen, so I changed my ID Guide to be a "Rarity Guide" rather than a "Price Guide" - I moved to a system of assigning 1 to 5 stars to guage the rarity of a particular piece.

I typically set pricing by using the Katalog IV value, which is shown in Euros. I convert to US Dollars using the current exchange rate, and then subtract 15% as my asking price. But I do not always stick by that rule. Some pieces are valued low in the German guide because they are relatively easy to find in Germany. If the piece is a Europe-only release that would be hard to find in America, I usually sell it at a premium to the German Price.

Lacey Does anyone have any idea where I can find an updated price guide for all the variations? I have one that I had printed off from somewhere a few years ago, but I'm wondering if there's an updated one I could find?
