1. Do you remember what your first Smurf puchase was? If so, what was it?
Not sure what my first smurf purchase was as I was only a child. But I can recall a few very early buys from a market stall where I brought (mum brought me) my first papa soft toy. I have a photo here of me with it and the photo is dated 89. This permanent market stall was one of the first places I brought smurfs from.. they always had a basket of smurfs. Brought my aussie football smurf (blue) there, probably only cost 50c maybe, also remember buying papa and ballerina smurfette. So that must have been late 80's, early 90's. Not sure when the stall disappeared, and then not long after the markets closed.
2. When did you begin collecting Smurfs as a hobby?
As a hobby probably mid-90's, 95 on-ward. Though I had been obviously collecting smurfs since a young age.. I probably started as soon as I popped out into the world, but I just didn't realise I was collecting until later on.
3. How old were you when you bought your first Smurf/and when you began collecting?
Young I guess. Born in 85, I'm guessing by 89 I was already into the smurfs.
4. Do you have a favorite Smurfy item?
My giant smurf soft toy!!
5. What’s your oddest Smurf item?
I brought a dog bowl at a market because it had smurfs on it... at the time I didn't even have a dog. It's one of those items I wonder, why the heck did I buy this.
6. How many PVCs do you have?
ahhh, I used to be able to remember the total of smurfs I had.. but not anymore. Do you count the supers as well, do you count the variations, blah, blah... I'll just say over 260 different..
7. How many total Smurf items do you have?
Couldn't count. I have a large collection of other smurf items as I went insane at markets during the mid 90's.
8. How are your Smurfs displayed?
Thanks to Ikea! Only recently got my pvcs and houses out on display in cabinets.
9. Does anyone else in your family collect smurfs?
Nope.
10. Do you collect any other toys?
yyyyes... what could possibly be better than collecting smurfs... collecting power ranger action figures and toys.... i don't think so. smurf collection is a main focus at the moment and much larger.
11. What was the LAST Smurf item you bought?
An authentic baseball smurfette.
12. What’s the best-priced (best deal) you got on a Smurf?
Baseball smurfette was a good deal. 93US for her with 7 other smurfs all of which I didn't have also, so that was lucky. Plus my Giant smurf soft toy only cost $2 at a market.
13. What’s the MOST you paid for one smurf?
Baseball again is probably the highest.. I haven't started buying any of the really high priced rare smurfs yet.
14. Do you know how Smurfette originated?
YES! Still waiting to re-watch this classic episode. It hasn't been released onto the dvds, they skipped it.
15. Do you like the cartoon as much as the toys?
I like collecting much more, but still really enjoy the cartoon. Buy the DVDS! Still haven't watched any on the latest volume.
16. Which, if any, Smurfs have you won in Pete’s great contests, or other contests?
I won my Traffic Smurf with paint error in one of Petes contests!
Also won a soft toy in a contest on Blue Cavern.
17. Have you given other people Smurfs as gifts?
No I don't think so.
18. Do you often receive Smurfs as gifts, or do you have to buy them all yourself?
I have to buy them. My family usually look out for smurfs but when they see them, they don't buy them because they don't know if I have them or not.
19. Do you wear Smurfs/Smurfy items?
No. But I still use a smurf quilt cover on my bed on a second blanket over the winter for extra warmth.
20. If there had been a Smurfs Finale episode, how do you think it would’ve ended?
Smurfily ever after?
21. Why do you even collect Smurfs?
I have no idea. lol. It's really a compulsion. Love collecting and just can't stop. I've grown out of them before but always keep coming back. Smurfs are great
