my collection

I started collecting Smurfs in the 1970's. My brother and I shared Smurfs and I kept as many as I could (about 15). We used to pull up my father's freshly planted sod and make real little smurf villages in the soil with sticks, the grass, etc.
I'll never forget how purple he turned when he saw that!

I have our original house/gate/fencing (If anyone has a spare bell for the gate entry, I'd love to buy ya a cup of coffee).

Several of the Smurfs from my childhood are worn and need cleaning (I've ordered the suggested cleaning products), but I'm torn about removing my brother's name from the bottom of some of the feet - nostalgia. Some are too worn to salvage - others (like the Gold smurf) I want to clean up and try to save.

ANYWAYS, here are some pics of my guys.

Re: my collection

wow. Very nice collection Amy.
Is that stand built to display your smurfs or have you chucked a heap of wood together. Looks good. You have quite a few smurfs I wouldn't mind pinching..hehe

Well done.

Brad.

Re: my collection

The smurfs in your photo's don't look bad at all. When did you start collecting again?

Re: my collection

Thanks Brad. It's not a display, but some nice birch I piled together for a group pic. :)
I also have 2 houses and the playset with the fencing and gate.

Re: my collection

Sometime in the 70's Chrissy. Probably '76ish.
They do look pretty good in the pics, but some of them asren't so hot up close - I'd say about 90% are in good to great condition, just need cleaning. The others are missinng parts, like one of the drummers lost part of his drumstick.

Re: my collection

Discouraging isn't it? The folks on this board are very helpful when it comes to replacement parts, some might have them or know where you can get your hands on them, if that's any help!

ha. I thought you'd designed and nailed together a work of art out of wood to display your smurfs on. hehe. I used to make stands out of books when I took photos of my collection early on.

Brad.
